About Me

Hello, I’m Aly.

An Ottawa-based writer, book lover, and plant mom with an affinity for ginger ale.

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to do something creative. I had a knack for storytelling and loved writing but didn’t know what I could do with those traits.

In 2019, I had my first taste of journalism while completing an internship with a Barcelona based culture magazine. Working with METAL Magazine made me instantly fall in love with the industry, and I finally knew what I wanted to do. I enjoyed speaking to photographers, designers and musicians about their inspirations, work, and future goals. But what really sold me on the industry was getting to tell someone’s story.

Now, along with finishing my master’s in journalism, I work in communications for CAA North & East Ontario. I write for the association’s blog and online magazine and work to optimize content for search. I write about anything from European vacations to insurance and how to check your engine oil.

I also cover stories on arts and culture around Ottawa, with themes of community events, vintage clothing and paper and book restoration. These stories can be found on Capital Current.
